Area Info
In the Middle of Southern Finland
Tammela is located in Häme area. It's only 1-1,5 hour drive to the region from all the major cities in Southern Finland: Helsinki, Tampere and Turku, and from several smaller cities as well. For this reason, i'ts a good to location so stay a bit longer and make day trips to different places and attractions in Southern Finland, in addition to seeing the nearby countryside environment and the Finnish nature. Alternatively, it's also a great choice to make just a short visit to Finnish forests within your city holiday for example in Helsinki.

Nature Lovers' Paradise
The region is located in the Häme Lake Uplands whose diverse nature includes parts of wild forest areas, bogs, ridges and numerous lakes, rivers and ponds.
Both Liesjärvi and Torronsuo national parks are located in Tammela and there are also several other recreation areas nearby. Since the hiking trails in the region are relatively short, they are well suited for day hiking and for hiking with children as well. At the end of the day, you can stay in a lodge and visit sauna, and the next day after breakfast, head back to the trail.
However, many of the area's nature destinations also have hiking connections to the over 250 km long Ilvesreitti (Häme Lynx Trail), so even long hikes in the Häme Lake Uplands area are possible.

Cultural Landscapes and History
In addition to the magnificent natural sites, the region has a variaty of traditional cultural landscapes: fields, small villages and a wide range of built cultural environments. In Tammela, the built cultural landscape can be found for example in Mustiala area, in addition to idyllic small villages. In Forssa, the area of the old cotton mill has been beautifully restored and is home to, among others, Forssa Museum and Nature Museum.
The Häme Oxroad from Turku to Hämeenlinna has passed the villages of Porras and Letku in Tammela for centuries, and even today there are many things to see and experience along the road. At the Korteniemi Heritage Farm in Liesjärvi National Park, you can learn about the life of a forester in the 1910s.
There are numerous events based on the history of the region throughout the Häme area, such as the Hakkapeliitta event in Tammela and the Hämeenlinna Medieval Market.

Bus Connections
The region can be reached by direct bus connections from Helsinki, Turku, Lahti, Hämeenlinna, Pori and Rauma.
The bus journey time to Forssa bus station is just under 2 hours from Helsinki, about 1 hour 20 minutes from Turku, about 2 hours from Lahti, 45 minutes from Hämeenlinna and just over 2 hours from Pori and Rauma.
When travelling to Tammela, the nearest bus stops are Eerikkilä, Kyynärä or Loukku, depending on the exact destination of the trip. When travelling to Porras villange, the nearest stop is Eerikkilä.
For those arriving to Tammela from Turku, Lahti or Hämeenlinna, the closest bus stop is Mustiala.
Train connections
The nearest train stations are located in Humppila and Hämeenlinna.
The distance from Humppila to Forssa is about 20 km and to Tammela about 25 km.
Airports
The distance from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to Tammela is approximately 110 km (1 h 30 min), from Tampere-Pirkkala Airport approximately 90 km (1 h 20 min.) and from Turku Airport 110 km (1 h 30 min).
Transport in the Region
There is not much public transport within the area and, especially on weekends and during school holidays, buses may not run to smaller villages at all. However, customers of Portaan Nahkurinverstas can order local transport as part of service packages.
